Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru

Part of the constellation of great wines around Chambertin, the plot of Charmes-Chambertin that we vinify is in the Mazoyères-Chambertin climat, just on the edge of Latricières-Chambertin. The 60-year-old vines, on a 0.40 hectare plot (≈ 1 acre), are thus in the noble part of the vineyard. The soil consists of fine gravel on the surface, mixed with clay on a substrate of firm limestone, providing power and persistence.
This Charmes-Chambertin wine has striking aromatic intensity: violet, liquorice, vanilla, quince, and red fruit. The tannins are dense but perfectly polished, and the length on the palate impresses with its persistence and the elegance of its texture. The exciting savoury finish revives the flavour.
Although it can be kept for 10 to 20 years, you can drink it in the first 5 years by decanting it one hour before serving the wine.
Depending on the vintage, we use 50% whole-bunch fermentation, and ageing lasts about 18 months in barrels (with 30% of new barrels).
It will pair well with a seven-hour lamb, a Rossini tournedos, Chinese-style glazed pork in its juices served with a wok of vegetables, duck confit and Sarladaise potatoes, or an Epoisses cheese.
